Main task 1 (5min)
You are going to write a report to the Chinese government about why they should switch how they obtain energy sooner rather than later. First, read over the news articles in your DME packet (pages 1 and 2) that give context to why China's energy demands have created big problems for the country. Main task 2 (5min) Next, read through the options that China could choose in order to secure their energy demands and reverse the environmental problems linked with those demands (pages 3 and 4 in the DME packet). |
Main task 3 (5 min)
Now read over the instruction sheet (page 6) in the packet to understand what is expected in your report. The structure suggestions give you a clear format for what each paragraph should cover in the report - there is also useful vocabulary that you should include on the instruction sheet. Stuck for ideas? Paragraph 1: Why is China's current energy demands an increasing issue in the country? Think back to your last lesson about the environmental impacts of China's energy demand and use the articles in the packet to support your answer further. Paragraph 2: What option(s) should China consider moving to for energy and why? This should be balanced - what is both positive and negative about the choice you have made and why overall do you feel it would benefit China to move to your chosen energy source. Paragraph 3: What option(s) should China not use at all? Which one or ones of the other options available would you advise China to avoid? Why would you advise them to not use that energy source over others? Main task 4: (20min) Create your report. Be sure to check back with the assessment grid - the last page in the DME packet - so you can see if you are doing what is needed for your target grade or above. Plenary: Send your completed assessment task to your teacher via ClassCharts or email. |
