Task 1: (5 minutes)
Using the map in your booklet, write a geographical description of the location of the Middle East. Stuck? Include compass directions as well as any specific countries or seas that you know. STRECH: Can you include the longitude or latitude of the area? Use an atlas to find these out! Task 2: (10 minutes) Using an atlas, or Google Earth, label the countries on your map (in your booklet). Once you have done this, complete the questions underneath, using your map for the answers. |
Task 3: (10 minutes)
You now need to add the following to your map of the Middle East (it may be easier to use the fresh blank map on Page 2 of the booklet for tasks 3 & 4):
Task 4: (5 minutes) Using slide 10 from this PowerPoint, add the 3 climatic regions to the smaller map in your booklet. Remember, you will need to give yourself a key so you know which region is which. |
Task 5: (5 minutes)
Using the maps in your booklet, describe the pattern of the relief of the land. (If you're not sure what this is, read a definition here). Stuck? Include compass directions and specific place names of the area. Task 6: (5 minutes) Using the maps in your booklet, describe the pattern of the population density of the area. (If you're not sure what this is, read a definition here). Stuck? Include compass directions and specific place names of the area. Task 7: (5 minutes) Using the two maps you have just described, can you link the two together? Why are there lots of people in some areas compared to others? Can you use the relief of the land to explain this? Stuck? Think about how many people live in the mountains, or near the rivers in the area. |
Task 1: (5 minutes)
In your booklet you have a map of the climatic regions of the Middle East, which you also looked at last lesson. Using the climate map to help you, you must choose the correct location for each of the images. Draw a line from the image to the location on the map. Stretch: Why do we get different climates around the world? Explain this in your booklet. |
Task 2: (10 minutes)
In your booklet, you will find a climate graph for one particular region of the Middle East. Using the data on the graph, you need to answer the questions in your booklet. If you are not sure how to read a climate graph, read this walk through here. Stretch: Using the data from this graph, can you explain what the climate in this area is like? How do you know this? |
Task 3: (25 minutes)
In your booklet, you have been given a blank climate graph axis and some data. You will now need to create your own climate graph using the data provided. Remember to use the walkthrough if you are not sure how this should look. Stretch: Using the data from this graph, can you explain what the climate in this area is like? How do you know this? Task 4: (5 minutes) Using this graph and the check list in your booklet, self assess your climate graph. Make sure you have used the correct axis for each set of data and you have used the correct colours (where possible). |

You need to write a persuasive piece to convince the reader of your decision. You will need to take into account the costs and benefits for each of the areas as well as the physical geography of where the rivers are. Stretch: Think about why you have chosen not to give control to a particular country - why is this so? |
Task 1: (2 minutes)
Looking at the image in your booklet, what are your first impressions of Yemen? Annotate your thoughts around the picture. Task 2: (5 minutes) Complete the fact file on Yemen in your booklet. Use the information here to help you. Task 3: (3 minutes) Looking at the data you have collected about Yemen, how does it compare to the UK? Why do you think this is the case? Stuck? Think about what you already know about the Middle East - climate, water shortages etc. Task 4: (7 minutes) As you may know, the Middle East has seen plenty of conflict in the last 50 years - but why has this happened in particular in Yemen?
